Apple TV is one of the best IPTV devices available in 2026 — the A15 Bionic chip in the 4K model handles high-bitrate 4K HDR streams that cause buffering on cheaper sticks, and the tvOS App Store has solid IPTV player options. The setup is straightforward, with no sideloading required.
This guide covers Apple TV 4K (all generations) and Apple TV HD. From start to streaming takes about 5 minutes.
What you need before starting
- Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K running tvOS 15 or later. The older Apple TV 3rd generation (the small black box without an App Store) cannot run IPTV apps.

- An Apple ID — required to download apps from the tvOS App Store.
- iPhone or iPad with the Apple TV Remote app (optional but strongly recommended) — entering long URLs with the Siri Remote is slow. The Remote app gives you a full keyboard on your phone.

Step 1 — Install your IPTV app
- From your Apple TV home screen, open the App Store
- Use Siri voice search or the search bar — say or type the app name (e.g. IPTV Smarters Pro)
- Select the app from results and tap Get or the price button
- Sign in with your Apple ID if prompted
- Wait for the download to complete — the app icon appears on your home screen
Step 2 — Add your subscription with Xtream Codes (recommended)

In IPTV Smarters Pro:
- Open the app → tap Add New User
- Select Login with Xtream Codes API
- Enter your server URL, username, and password
- Tap Add User — channels load within 60–90 seconds
In GSE Smart IPTV:
- Open the app → tap the + icon
- Select Xtream Codes API
- Enter your server details and tap Add
Typing tip: Open the Apple TV Remote app on your iPhone → connect to your Apple TV → use the full phone keyboard to enter credentials. Dramatically faster than navigating the on-screen keyboard with the Siri Remote.
Step 3 — Add your subscription with M3U URL
In IPTV Smarters Pro:
- Tap Add New User → select Load Your Playlist or File/URL
- Paste your M3U URL
- Give it a name and tap Add User
In GSE Smart IPTV:
- Tap + → select Add M3U URL
- Paste your URL and tap Add
Step 4 — Set up EPG
With Xtream Codes login, EPG loads automatically. With M3U, you may need to add it manually:
In IPTV Smarters: Settings → EPG → enter your EPG URL → Reload EPG.
In GSE Smart IPTV: Tap your playlist → EPG Sources → Add → paste your XMLTV EPG URL.
iCloud sync tip for GSE: Enable iCloud sync in GSE settings and your playlists, favourites, and EPG sources automatically appear on your iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV — no re-entry needed on each device.
Step 5 — Optimize for best performance
Use Ethernet: The Apple TV 4K (2022 and later) has a built-in Ethernet port — plug it in directly. Earlier 4K models need a USB-C to Ethernet adapter. Apple TV HD needs an adapter too. Wired is always better for 4K IPTV.
Increase buffer size in GSE: Settings → Player → Buffer → set to Large. Absorbs network fluctuations without interrupting playback.
Hardware vs software decoder: In GSE, you can switch between hardware and software decoding in Settings → Player → Decoder. Hardware is faster; software is more compatible with H.265 streams. If you see a black screen on some channels, switch to Software.
Use the same credentials on all Apple devices

Quick troubleshooting
Channels not loading — Re-enter credentials via copy-paste. Check subscription is active in your provider’s portal.
Black screen on some channels — Switch to Software decoder in GSE or try ExoPlayer in IPTV Smarters.
EPG not showing — Force a manual EPG refresh in app settings. Allow 5–10 minutes on first load.
Buffering on 4K — Connect via Ethernet. For the Apple TV 4K 2022+, the port is on the back of the device. You need 50 Mbps consistent for smooth 4K.
