Setting up IPTV on Roku is different from every other device — and that’s important to know before you start. Roku runs a closed operating system that doesn’t allow traditional IPTV player apps like TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, or GSE Smart IPTV. This guide covers what actually works in 2026.
The honest truth about IPTV on Roku
Roku’s platform is intentionally restrictive. You can’t install APKs, sideload apps, or run most third-party IPTV players. The Roku Channel Store has very limited IPTV options — most of the apps that appear when you search for “IPTV” on Roku are outdated, unreliable, or don’t work with standard M3U/Xtream Codes subscriptions.
That said, there are three methods that work reliably in 2026:

- Method 2: Stream from your phone or laptop to Roku via screen mirroring

Method 1 — IPTV apps in the Roku Channel Store
A small number of IPTV players are available in the Roku Channel Store. Availability varies by region and changes over time as Roku periodically removes apps. The most consistently available options in 2026:
Streaming Stick+ / Roku Ultra users: Search the Roku Channel Store for IPTV Smarters, OTT Navigator, or Channelsdvr. If any of these appear in your region’s store, install and set up exactly as described below.
Setting up an M3U app on Roku:
- From the Roku home screen, select Streaming Channels
- Search for an IPTV app by name
- Select it → Add Channel → OK
- Open the installed channel from your home screen
- Select Add Playlist or Login

Important: If the app you’re looking for doesn’t appear in your region’s Roku store, skip to Method 2 or 3 below.
Method 2 — Screen mirroring from Android phone or laptop
If native IPTV apps aren’t available in your Roku store, screen mirroring from a phone or laptop is a reliable workaround. You run your IPTV app on your phone and mirror the display to Roku on your TV.
Enable screen mirroring on Roku:
- On your Roku: Settings → System → Screen mirroring → select Prompt or Always allow
Mirror from Android phone:
- Install IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate on your Android phone
- Set up your subscription on the phone first
- On your Android phone: Settings → Connected devices → Cast (or use Quick Settings → Screen Cast)
- Select your Roku device from the list
- Open your IPTV app on your phone — it will display on your TV
Mirror from Windows PC:
- Press Windows + K on your keyboard
- Select your Roku from the Cast panel
- Open your IPTV player (VLC, IPTV Smarters for Windows) on your PC
- The stream displays on your TV via Roku
Limitation: Screen mirroring uses your phone or PC as the processing unit. If you switch apps or your phone locks, the stream stops. It also slightly reduces video quality compared to native streaming. Fine for occasional use, not ideal for daily watching.
Method 3 — Connect a Firestick to your TV instead (recommended)
If you watch IPTV regularly and want a reliable, full-featured experience, the best solution is to connect an Amazon Firestick or Android TV box to your TV’s HDMI port alongside your Roku.

Quick troubleshooting
Screen mirroring is laggy — Make sure both your phone and Roku are on the same 5GHz Wi-Fi network. 2.4GHz causes lag and stuttering during screen mirroring.
Roku can’t find my phone for casting — Go to Roku Settings → System → Screen mirroring → set to “Always allow”. Restart both devices.
IPTV app not in Roku store — App availability varies by region and changes frequently. Your best options are screen mirroring or adding a Firestick.
