An M3U playlist is a simple text file containing a list of channel URLs. Your IPTV provider gives you either an M3U URL (a link that generates the playlist dynamically) or a static M3U file. Both work the same way in your IPTV player.

M3U URL vs Xtream Codes — which should you use?
Most providers give you both options. Here’s when to use each:
Use Xtream Codes when: Your provider gave you a server URL, username, and password. This is the better option — channels load progressively, EPG is usually automatic, and the connection is more stable on low-RAM devices like basic Firestick.
Use M3U URL when: Your provider gave you a direct URL ending in .m3u or .m3u8. Also use M3U if you want to use multiple providers in the same app, or if your provider only supports M3U.
Adding M3U playlist to TiviMate
- Open TiviMate → tap Add Playlist
- Select M3U Playlist
- Paste your M3U URL — copy-paste directly, never type manually
- Give the playlist a name (e.g. “My IPTV”)
- Tap Add — importing begins immediately
- Wait for the import to complete — small playlists take 30 seconds, large ones (50,000+ channels) can take 3–5 minutes

Adding M3U playlist to IPTV Smarters Pro
- Open IPTV Smarters → tap Add New User
- Select Load Your Playlist or File/URL
- Enter a name for your playlist
- Paste your M3U URL in the URL field
- Tap Add User
Adding M3U playlist to GSE Smart IPTV (iOS/Apple TV)
- Open GSE Smart IPTV → tap the + button
- Select Add M3U URL
- Enter a name and paste your M3U URL
- Tap Add — channels load progressively

Setting up auto-refresh
Your provider updates stream URLs periodically. Setting TiviMate to auto-refresh your playlist pulls the latest URLs automatically:
Settings → Playlists → your playlist → Update interval → set to 24 hours. Enable Auto-update on startup.
This prevents “channel not loading” issues caused by stale URLs after provider maintenance.
Troubleshooting M3U issues
Import fails immediately — The URL is wrong or has extra characters. Copy-paste directly from your provider’s email. Check for trailing spaces.
Import takes too long or freezes — Switch to Xtream Codes login instead. Or filter channel groups to import a smaller subset.
Channels show in list but won’t play — The M3U URLs have gone stale. Force a manual update: Settings → Playlists → your playlist → Update now. See our full channels not loading guide for more causes.
